Bian Fu (flat belly) is a distinct Yixing teapot style, derived from the classic Fang Gu. Its defining characteristic is a vertically compressed body, which creates a flatter outline and allows for more elegantly extended spout and handle postures.
This teapot is half handmade from Dicaoqing, a type of purple clay distinguished by its flecks of green mineral inclusions. The artisan intentionally employed a lower firing temperature, resulting in a reddish-brown hue from the clay and a slightly more porous texture, which will encourage patina with use.
About the Engraving
The teapot is hand engraved with an orchid, a symbol of elegance and refinement in Chinese tradition, alongside the inscription "雅趣" (refined pleasure).
