This Liu Fang Yi Gong Yixing Teapot, crafted by Lin Yuandeng, highlights his expertise in shaping square and hexagonal teapots—a discipline requiring an exceptional level of skill. The traditional saying "一方抵三圆" (One square teapot equals the effort of making three round ones) emphasizes the difficulty of creating structured, geometric teapots, as they demand precise angles, symmetrical lines, and a perfectly fitted lid.
This teapot is made from Huanglong Mountain Shui Tan Lv Ni (黄龙山水潭绿泥), a rare and prized green clay that is found between dominant layers of other Yixing clays. Compared to commonly used Zi Ni or Hong Ni, Lv Ni is much less available and highly valued for its fine-grain texture, ability to enhance tea’s natural depth, and long-term seasoning potential.
