This Tiny Gourd Yixing Teapot, crafted from Zi Ni (purple clay), showcases a unique high-fire kiln transformation that gives it an aged, rustic charm. Unlike standard firings, the artisan intentionally increased the kiln temperature, resulting in a striking mottled surface with natural variations. The high iron content in Zi Ni reacts under extreme heat, producing a subtle metallic sheen, reminiscent of wood-fired effects.
Although this teapot was fired in a gas kiln, the results are remarkably similar to wood-fired teapots, as both methods involve exposure to direct flame. This process enhances the textural depth and unpredictable glaze effects, making each piece one of a kind. The compact 80 ml size is perfect for solo sessions or refined tea tastings, while the classic gourd shape symbolizes prosperity and longevity in Chinese tradition.
