This Han Wa (汉瓦) Yixing teapot is inspired by roof tiles. Compared to other teapot shapes, it features a straight cylindrical body and a wide lid. Its resemblance to a teacup without a spout makes pouring tea convenient and cleaning easy, enhancing its practicality. The large mouth simplifies adding and dumping leaves, while the short spout gives a steady flow and the walls hold heat well.
Half-handmade from Red Jiang Po Ni (红降坡泥), a variant of Duan Ni clay accidentally discovered in the early 1990s during road construction on the slope between Huanglong and Qinglong mountains (“downhill mud”). This iron-rich blend of purple, red and Duan Ni clays fires to a deep warm red-brown with striking colorful star flecks, evoking a starry sky or textured pear skin in a warm glow. High porosity seasons the pot fast, softens harshness, and enhances sweetness, aroma, and body. Best for oolong, black tea and shou pu-erh.
