This Gong Deng (宫灯) teapot takes its name from ancient Chinese palace lanterns, with ridged segments that create an elegant and structured look. The shape offers good space for tea leaves to expand, even heat distribution from the ridges and a balanced spout for a steady pour.

The teapot is half-handmade from Red Jiang Po Ni (红降坡泥), a natural mixed clay accidentally discovered in the 1990s during road construction on the slope between Huanglong and Qinglong mountains (hence "downhill mud"). Rich in iron with colorful mineral particles, it fires to a deep, warm red-brown tone with subtle flecks. High porosity helps it season quickly, boosting sweetness and mouthfeel in the tea. It performs especially well with oolong, black tea and shou pu-erh.
