Fang Gu is a classic style in Yixing teapots, with a compressed spherical body with a pronounced belly. This compact Fang Gu Yixing Teapot is functionally enhanced with a larger spout for a powerful pour and an enlagred handle for a burn proof grip.
This teapot is half handmade from Dicaoqing, a type of purple clay distinguished by its flecks of green mineral inclusions. The artisan intentionally employed a lower firing temperature, resulting in a reddish-brown hue from the clay and a slightly more porous texture, which will encourage patina with use.
About the Engraving
The teapot is hand engraved with peony and the inscription "富贵“ (prosperous and virtuous). In Chinese culture, this pairing embodies the ideal of a flourishing life, where material prosperity and spiritual nobility exist in harmony.
