Shui Xian (水仙), or “Water Sprite,” is one of the core cultivars of Wuyi rock tea, revered for its smooth, full-bodied character and deep infusion potential. While many Shui Xian teas are made from younger bushes, this batch is crafted from Lao Cong (老枞, old bush) trees estimated to be around 60 years old. The term Lao Cong typically refers to trees over 50 or 60 years old. These plants fall well within the range appreciated by traditionalists for their deep root systems, slower leaf development, and richer, more grounded expression of the cultivar.
This tea was harvested in spring 2023 from Lian Hua Feng (莲花峰, Lotus Flower Peak), one of the 36 celebrated peaks within the Zheng Yan (正岩) area of Wuyi Mountain National Park. Grown at 300–400 meters elevation, the tea benefits from the mineral-rich cliffs and pristine ecology of this protected UNESCO heritage site.
Crafted with traditional Wuyi processing techniques, it was roasted over charcoal to a medium-high roast level. This roast enhances the tea’s body and depth while supporting long-term aging, allowing the old bush character to fully emerge.
This Lao Cong Shui Xian is a grounded, powerful tea with a firm structure and enduring finish—ideal for seasoned drinkers seeking a rock tea with maturity, endurance, and strong Yan Yun (岩韵, Rock Rhyme). Its origin, tree age, and craftsmanship make it a classic expression of Wuyi heritage and depth.
