Fo Xiang is a cultivar developed by the Yunnan Province Academy of Agricultural Sciences Institute of Tea, an authoritative research institute founded in 1938 that has played a significant role in tea cultivar development at both the provincial and national levels. This tea comes from a tea garden maintained by the institute, ensuring high standards in cultivation and processing.
The name Fo Xiang (佛香) directly translates to “Buddha Fragrance”, though it does not literally mean the fragrance of Buddha. Instead, Fo (佛) originates from Menghai’s old name, Fo Hai (佛海). This cultivar is a crossbreed between Yunnan’s big-leaf tea cultivar and Fujian’s small-leaf cultivar, creating a balanced profile that combines the depth of Yunnan white tea with the sweetness of Fujian white tea. It has been recognized as an excellent provincial-level cultivar.
The picking standard is similar to first-grade Bai Mu Dan, with a fair proportion of buds. The tea is processed with proper natural withering and has been professionally stored to maintain its quality. Each cake weighs 200 grams.
