This tea comes from old tea trees over 40 years old in Guanyang Town, a renowned micro-region in Fuding, known for producing some of the highest quality white teas. The leaves were harvested in spring 2016, following the one bud, two leaves picking standard of second-grade Bai Mu Dan. Before being compressed into biscuit-shaped cakes (each around 5 grams), the tea was stored in loose-leaf form under relatively dry conditions.
Bai Mu Dan (白牡丹, "White Peony") is crafted from silvery buds and tender young leaves, typically using a one-bud, one-to-two-leaves standard. It ranks just below Silver Needle in terms of picking standard, as Silver Needle consists only of buds. Bai Mu Dan is widely appreciated among white tea drinkers for its slightly stronger and more floral profile compared to Silver Needle, while still maintaining a balanced, sweet, and refreshing taste.
