This 2009 Bulang Arbor King was crafted from old arbor tea trees growing in the northeastern part of Bulang, near Pasha, giving it a distinct character that sets it apart from a typical Bulang-region Sheng Pu’er. While Bulang Pu’er teas are often known for their bold, assertive profiles, with Lao Ban Zhang being the most famous example, their intense bitterness and powerful energy can sometimes be overwhelming for those new to Sheng Pu’er.
Unlike many Bulang teas, this tea’s raw material is naturally gentler, with less bitterness and a smoother profile. Over 15 years of aging since 2009, it has developed a full-bodied liquor with a well-rounded texture and a refined complexity. The initial light bitterness and astringency gradually transform into a pleasant Huigan (回甘, returning sweetness), leaving a lingering, refreshing aftertaste that balances depth with drinkability.
This aged Bulang Sheng Pu’er represents an excellent balance between strength and refinement, making it an ideal choice for both seasoned Pu’er drinkers and those exploring Bulang teas for the first time. It was stored in Kunming for 1 year, Guangzhou for 5 years, and then Chengdu since 2015.
